2015 ‘All Aboard’ School Concert

Last week we had our school concert and it was fantastic! Mrs. Teoh, the most fantastic teacher wrote the concert and organised lots of the dances! We had the concert at the Besen Centre and had a performance experience in a real theatre. The theme of the concert was about travel. Our songs were “Hit the Road Jack” and “Camel Train to Yamba.”

The teachers did a dance and Mr. G (the principal), Miss Wallace (the prep teacher) and Marie (the school secretary) all had parts in the play and they were great.

Lily: The European dances were really good and I did a Holland dance. My favourite dances were “Waka, Waka”, “Roam”, “Hit the Road Jack” and “Walk Like an Egpytian.”

Will: The cultural dance was really good and my favourite dancer was Connor. The three funniest bits of the concert were the teachers dance, Ambrose and Joshua and Francesco.

Rebecca: I liked the dances and when the dances finished I really wanted to do it again.

Teddy: My three favourite dances were “Uptown Funk,” “Maps” and “Waka, Waka.”

Nathan: I really liked the concert and My favourite dances were “Uptown Funk,” “Maps”, “Fly Away” and “Run Through the Jungle.”

Jessica: My favourite was “Camel Train to Yamba.” When it was finished I wanted to do it all over again.

Isaac: My three favourite dances were “Waka, Waka”, “LA La La” and  “Uptown Funk.”

Noah: I liked when the “La La” song finished and the actors talked.

Area

002 003 004 005 006

This week we have been learning about area. Area is the amount of surface a shape is covering. We found the area of a shape using lots of things around the classroom such as rulers, footy cards, textas, unifix blocks, building straws and pencils.

We helped Mr. G solve his farm problem and measure the area of his paddock!

My Brain Needs to Hurt

Today we learnt that if we make a mistake we grow two neurons (Ava)

when we keep trying and make an effort after a mistake or when it is really hard and we keep trying, that is when our brain grows.

We can have two mind sets: Fixed or a growth mindset. Jessica

We want to have a growth mindset. Mrs. E

It is good to have a growth mindset because if something is hard we can keep trying even though something is hard. Lily

It is also good to have a growth mindset because if you already think you are the smartest in the world you won’t keep learning. Noah

The Week That Was

This week we have been working really hard.

Literacy
We have been reading about Reports because we are going to begin to write reports in the next few weeks.
We have been writing a narrative. Each person looked at their previous narratives and created a learning goal for the week. Ava was focusing on describing settings, William was focusing on using better describing words and Becky wanted to use more speech in her writing.

Maths
We have been learning the value of digits by looking at place value of 3 digit numbers. We have been using MAB blocks to assist us.
We found out:
How to break a number apart. (Nancy)
10 ones becomes 1 ten. (Ayrton)
10 tens becomes 1 hundred. (Nathan)
10 hundreds becomes 1 thousand. (Lily)
We can use hundreds, tens and ones to count on when we add ten or 20 to a number. (Nathan)

Concert
We have all been working really hard to practice our concert songs but we can’t say anymore because it is a secret!
